The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave a provisional aerodrome licence to Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar on 6 March 2026. This is an important step because it allows the airport to start preparing for flight operations.
What Does This Licence Mean?
A provisional aerodrome licence means that the airport has met important safety, infrastructure, and operational standards required by the aviation authority. Because of this approval, aircraft can now land and take off from the airport for trial and operational preparations.
Validity of the Licence
The licence issued by DGCA is valid for six months. During this period, the airport authorities must complete all final checks and preparations to receive a permanent licence.
Flights May Start Soon
After receiving the licence and earlier security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the airport is expected to start cargo and domestic flight operations within about 45 days.
Importance of Jewar Airport
The Noida International Airport in Jewar will be one of the largest airports in India and will help:
-
Reduce traffic at Delhiās Indira Gandhi International Airport
-
Improve air connectivity for Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway region
-
Support business, tourism, and real estate development
-
Create new jobs and economic growth in the region
